WiFi FAQ’s
What if I can’t see the SP Premium or my Connect! Spot WiFi on my device: These networks broadcasts in 5GHz only (802.11 a/n/ac). If the wireless in your adapter is 802.11 b, b/g or b/g/n it will not operate in 5 GHz and will not display SP Premium or your Connect! Spot network as a viable option.
Portal page doesn’t open: A captive portal (splash page) is used for SP Guest, SP Premium and some WiFi Buyouts. The portal page loads automatically on iOS devices. Windows and Android devices will need to actively open a browser to pull up the portal page. If it does not appear, try to refresh your browser or browse to another page in order to force your device to redirect to the portal.
I don’t know the password: If you purchased SP Guest or SP Premium WiFi but did not take note of your six-digit password, you can use the forgot password option on the portal to retrieve it. You can also call our customer service line at 385-468-2229. We can retrieve the password for you.
If you are attending an event with a WiFi Buyout, you will need to contact event personnel, usually at a registration area or info desk to retrieve the password.
Can I use my username and password on another device: No, your account can only be used on one device. It cannot be moved to another device as the MAC address of the WiFi adapter is tied to that account after first login.
Interference:
Wi-Fi services are inherently vulnerable to interference. Interference may degrade the ability of exhibitors to demonstrate their products, prevent sales reps from placing orders and block keynote addresses from being live streamed, among other important convention activities. There are many devices that can generate interference, such as; Bluetooth devices, Medical equipment, Microwave ovens, Two-way radios, Remote controls, smartphone hotspots, wireless routers, etc.
Frequency:
WiFi equipment uses radio signals in either the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz frequency band. Some devices operate in only one of these bands, while others offer the ability to use both bands.
In a high-density environment like a convention center, in order to combat interference, it is highly recommended to use only devices that are capable of 5 GHz (802.11 a/n/ac) whenever possible. However, we understand tht there will continue to be devices that require 2.4 GHz access. The Salt Palace will broadcast dual-band networks in all lobby areas and meeting rooms. But in the exhibit halls, we will only provide 5GHz access as exhibit halls usually encounter dramatically more interference.
If 2.4GHz service is required inside an exhibit hall, the Facility Services department will work with you to design a best-effort solution for access in designated areas.
You can make a difference: Help us make the WiFi experience successful for everyone on every network here at the Salt Palace Convention Center.
- If you bring in your own WiFi equipment, use only one non-overlapping Wi-Fi channel. Don’t set channel to auto.
- Turn off your personal hotspots when not in use.
- Turn your WiFi setting to off on your wireless devices when not in use. If left on, these devices will continue to scan and use resources on the networks even when idle.
- Turn the power down on your router or personal hotspot so you don’t adversely affect other services in the area.
- Don’t combine or bond channels. Doing so will cause channel interference for you all other surrounding WiFi services.
- Don’t use peer-to-peer traffic apps or torrent downloader software tools like BitTorrent. Doing so consumes a disproportionately large amount of bandwidth and network resources.
